Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Stress related to obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors can feel overwhelming. If you've been trying to stop thinking distressing thoughts but they keep popping into your mind, or you've been trying to stop engaging in behaviors, but can't seem to stop, it's time to check in with an experienced psychologist. Luckily, evidence-based techniques make a significant difference fairly quickly when working with a clinician who is experienced in treating OCD. Therapy will be uniquely tailored for each client, however will most likely look like discussing your fears, obsessions and compulsions in a nonjudgmental space to fully understand your current experience. Then, together we will make a fear- hierarchy (a list of situations or things that worry you, scare you, or cause your distress). This list will determine the areas you would most like to work on. Through weekly homework "exposure" assignments we will support you in intentionally and slowly face your fears until your stress levels dramatically decrease. You will be supported through the process to make it manageable, and will also learning coping strategies and tools to lessen your overall stress during the process.
