Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Children & Teens

In children and teens, attention and concentration difficulties can show up in a variety of ways, and can have varying underlying causes. At Coast Family, our goal is to thoroughly explore and truly understand the ways that distraction, inattention, and/or hyperactivity may be impacting one's overall quality of life. While assessing for and treating these symptoms, we use a biopsychosocial approach- keeping in mind enviornmental, genetic, social, biological and other unique impacts on today's youth. Cognitive-Behavioral as well as other specific behavioral strategies are scientifically proven to help children and teens with executive functioning difficulties and at times can be implemented even more efficiently with the support of family/caregivers. Oftentimes psychological testing can also be a useful tool to help distinguish pure ADHD symptoms from co-occuring anxiety, specific learning challenges, and/or other mood dysregulation challenges.

School Support

Sometimes after a child or teen is diagnosed with ADHD, it is recommended that certain school accommodations are put in place to best support their academics. We are here to help families navigate the process of applying for academic accommodations (i.e.: 504 Plan, or Individualized Education Programs (IEP's)), as well as attending meetings at the school for further support as needed.

Young Adults & Adults

Have you noticed difficulties with time management throughout your life? Has a parent, partner, or close friend made comments about your disorganization or forgetfulness, despite constant reminders? Have you been struggling with completing projects for school, grad school, or work? Is procrastination something you have always dealt with, but you finally want to learn ways to deal with it? Are you feeling exhausted trying to complete tasks, but can't seem to finish one project before jumping to another? If any of the answers are "yes," we can definitely help.

Our sessions will be spent understanding your specific struggles and how they are impacting the quality of your life, work and/or relationships. Yes, it is possible to shift your thoughts & behaviors to start feeling productive & capable again.

Psychological testing is also available as an option to properly diagnose ADHD, or to re-assess if clients feel they may have been improperly diagnosed in the past.

Educational Support

At times college/graduate students require academic accommodations to succeed. If this is the case, we are here to help, and would be happy to set up a time to talk by phone to better understand your needs.

Good News

Clients who are accurately diagnosed and start to utilize skills to better manage their ADHD symptoms (with the appropriate supports in place), report higher self-esteem, less depression, and lowered anxiety symptoms overall!
