For ADHD tests, Coast Family works with children ages five and up, middle and high schoolers, college and graduate students, and adults of all ages. We can guide you in understanding your child’s learning needs, distinguishing between ADHD and other conditions, or qualifying for necessary accommodations on standardized tests like the ACT, SAT, LSAT, or MCAT.
What To Expect During The ADHD Testing Process
Our assessments can cover a wide range of areas depending on your personal referral questions. Your evaluation may encompass cognitive testing, academic achievement assessments, and behavioral/emotional rating scales that capture functioning across home, school, and social settings. Self-report measures reflect your own experience of your symptoms, while input from parents, teachers, and loved ones add critical context.
In our practice, a typical evaluation takes place across four to five sessions. The first session includes a virtual intake appointment to gather your detailed developmental and symptom history. Next, we guide you through an interview focused on ADHD signs and symptoms, if we didn’t have a chance to cover this in the intake appointment.
Your third and fourth sessions are centered around in-person testing. Generally, these sessions take about four hours each. Finally, we schedule a virtual feedback session to review your results with you in full and answer any questions you may have.
If you’re bringing in a younger child for ADHD testing, Coast Family’s office is designed with comfort in mind. Parents can wait in a private space, and you’re welcome to bring work or something else to do while your child is assessed. We move children through testing at their own pace, providing snacks, breaks, and visual progress cues to keep the experience calm and as stress-free as possible.
Standard results are usually delivered within four to six weeks. We do offer a rush option for an additional fee if you have time-sensitive needs. If you’re using health insurance, you’ll receive a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement and a script so that you know exactly what to ask your provider.
How We Support Children, Teens, And Adults After ADHD Assessments
At your feedback session, you’ll receive a thorough review of your findings. For adults, we’ll explore your strengths, challenges, diagnosis if applicable, and pages of actionable recommendations based on your ADHD screening. For kids, we can also create child-friendly narrative presentations that explain the results in an accessible, reassuring way.
Our team can collaborate with schools, treatment providers, and specialists, attend or support IEP meetings, coordinate classroom observations, and connect you with referrals for other specialists.
